Locations

The Air Force operates from air bases across Australia. During exercises and in response to international events, we also use the aviation facilities of partner governments and strategic allies.

Broad-based capability

The locations of Air Force air bases provide broad coverage of Australia whilst satisfying specific strategic needs. Some are home to Air Force squadrons of fighter, surveillance and transport aircraft plus air traffic control, while others fulfil intelligence-gathering, specialist training and administrative functions. There are also 'bare bases' that are designed to support operational and exercise deployments as required.
